By default, the dither is off (Type "None"), meaning that your program material is left in the original format. To turn dithering on and off, change the Dither type. Note: Dither is independent of the Loudness Maximizer To turn dither and word length reduction on, click the "None" button to select MBIT+, Type 1 or Type 2 as the dither type. When the Dither type is set to "None", there is no dither or word length reduction applied. Dither is independent of the Loudness Maximizer. The active or bypassed state of this module applies only to the Loudness Maximizer processor. I use the Loudness Maximizer once in a while and have the dither turned off for the same reason. The very few times I use the L2 these days, I make sure that dither is off so I can dither in my sequencing program. You can turn off dither and IDR, no problem. Also, on the bit meter when you add dither noise the bottom part of the bit meter is supposed to light up, right?I think you are misunderstanding the L2. What happens when you truncate to 24 bits? Is it as bad as truncating to a 16 bit output? Luckily Ozone has a bit meter which tells me what is going on. I was just wondering if the same rules apply to Ozone, but on their website they state that the loudness maximizer can be used independent of their dither. I only vaguely understand why you need to do that with the L2 (as stated in the L2's manual). I want to use Ozone just to limit, but I am worried about it bumping up the word length of my track from 24 bits to whatever Ozone processes at (like the L2), so I was just wondering if I would still want to dither to a 24 bit output with Ozone. I am using Logic to master my tracks, so I want to try POW-r on this particular track (dither down with the bounce in the host application). On my latest release I am experimenting with different dithers.
